The importance of the BMS for lithium batteries

1. Prevent overcharge and overdischarge

1.1 Overcharge protection: When the charging voltage of lithium batteries exceeds the set value, the BMS will cut off the charging circuit to prevent the batteries from exploding or catching fire due to overcharging.
1.2 Over-discharge protection: When the battery voltage is too low, the protection board will stop discharging to prevent the battery from being damaged due to over-discharge and affecting its service life.

2. Short circuit and overcurrent protection

2.1 Short-circuit protection: In the event of an accidental short circuit at the battery output terminal, the protection board will quickly cut off the circuit to prevent the battery from overheating, smoking or even exploding due to excessive current.
2.2 Overcurrent Protection: When the charging or discharging current exceeds the safe range, the protection board will limit the current to prevent damage to the battery and external devices.

3. Temperature monitoring and protection

The protection board is equipped with a built-in temperature sensor, which can monitor the battery temperature in real time. When the temperature exceeds the safe range, the protection board will take measures such as limiting the charging and discharging rate or disconnecting the circuit to prevent the battery from being damaged due to overheating.

4. Balanced management and prolongation of lifespan

In lithium battery packs, the protection board ensures consistency in voltage and capacity among individual cells through its equalization management function, thereby enhancing the overall performance and lifespan of the battery pack.

5. Multiple protection and fault diagnosis

The protection board not only offers multiple protection functions but also can record fault codes and data, which helps diagnose battery problems and provides a basis for maintenance and management.
